Guest Lecture: Construction Morphology: Implications, opportunities, consequences (Jenny Audring, Leiden University)

Date: 31. January 2024Time: 12:15 – 13:45Location: Room KH 0.011, Kollegienhaus, Universitätsstraße 15, Erlangen

The Research Training Group Dimensions of Constructional Space has great pleasure in inviting you to a talk by Jenny Audring (Leiden University) entitled:

Construction Morphology: Implications, opportunities, consequences

In the course of this talk, she will explore the intersection of morphology and Construction Grammar (CxG). She argues that Construction Morphology is not just Construction Grammar applied to morphology. This approach recognizes that morphological data have distinct peculiarities that have to be taken into account when creating a model of language within the Construction Grammar framework. In her talk, Jenny Audring will focus on the following issues:

* Relationality: the links within and among morphological constructions;
* The concept of productivity and particularly limited productivity;
* Paradigmaticity, or the role of ‘horizontal’ relations between complex words and between morphological schemas.
Summing up, she will discuss which implications morphological data have for the theory of Construction Grammar as a whole.
