SUMMARY:Interview with David Chancellor about his Photo Book “Hunter
 s” (9.7.2025)
UID:6b56-4a3f-0adf-29166@www.angam.phil.fau.de
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, there has been a major increase in hunti
ng safaris in South Africa. Though some hunters state that “hunting
and conservation go hand in hand\,” especially big game hunting rema
ins a controversial practice\, one that David Chancellor seeks to expl
ore in his photo book “Hunters.” Through striking photographs he p
ortrays the complex relationship between man and animal\, with a parti
cular focus on the hunters themselves. The seminar “Cocoa\, Ivory\,
Oil: Representations of Imperial Lifestyles\,” held by Prof. Dr. Cla
udia Lillge\, has organized an interview with the photographer to lear
n more about his inspirations and intentions behind his pictures\, the
reception by both the audience and the hunters he depicts\, and possi
ble ties to colonialism in his works. The interview will take place on
July 9th at 10:30 am in room C601\; David Chancellor is going to join
us via Zoom. If you have any questions regarding the event\, please c
 ontact Prof. Dr. Claudia Lillge.
